The pwan's weblog without a name

I'm hurting for a decent byline here, as you can tell.

Well the fast is over. Overall, it didn't work out so well. There was a code freeze date at work which meant eveyone was checking in masive amounts of code changes, so a lot of the time the compiles would just suddently start recompiling the entire world. So as I was waiting for compiles to finish I found myself surfing a bit. It was either that or watch the make chug along.

The TV part was a no-brainer since I don't have cable. However, when I gave blood on Wednesday, the site had a really loud giant projection TV showing the cermony highlights, which was exactly the sort of stuff I has trying to avoid all week. Sigh They strapped me in and started taking my blood and CNN started showing scenes of the crashes and collapses. It was like something out of A Clockwork Orange.

The no active copyright bit didn't work out too well either. I tried reading some classic literature I was supposed to have read back in high school. Hey if it's over 2000 years old it doesn't have a copyright, right ? Wrong. Unless your reading it in the original Greek, the translation's probably copyrighted. Oops. I suppose the same was true for all the classical music I was listening too all week as well.

Maybe I'll do better next year.

(I'm backing up the site today for the first time ever ! I've got around 7 megs (!!) worth of stuff up here now, and the lack of a backup's been bugging me for a while. What was keeping me from doing it was my zip drive has been on the fritz for at least a year, and every rainy day I'ld waste a few hours mucking around with Linux kernel configuration trying to get it working again. Finally I gave up, classified it a hardware issue, and went out and bought a USB model instead of a parallel port model. I figured this would cause me even more grief, so I put off installing it until another rainy day. Well that day was today, and it took all of 5 minutes to get it up and running ! That's probably because I went through all the USB support grief (including the upgrade to 2.4) when I installed the camera support a while back.

So what am I going to do with the rest of the rainy day now ?)
