I sent my first SMS message today. Then later tonight I'm taking the train to New York for the weekend. I feel so Old Europe.

Hmmm. One of my entries is being quoted by some envionmental group. I'm even the opening comment. Wee-hoo.
Unfortunately, no one from the EWG asked if it was OK if they included my post on their page, so it looks like I'm endorsing some NGO I may not neccessarily agree with. Not that I actually disagree with anything their saying. Fieldale and their representative-for-hire are slimy chicken giblets, but still someone was paid to put that page together, so it feels different than seeing another blogger point to something I've written. Hmmm.

In crossword magazines there's occasionally a puzzle called "pumpkin", where a certain word or phrase in some sentences is replaced by the word "pumpkin". Your job is to determine what that word is. It's an easy, space-filler of a puzzle. Usually it only takes one or two sentences to guess the word.
I suggest a new, improved version of the game called "raging cow". The rules are almost the same, except that instead of using the word "pumpkin", the word "raging cow". It adds some much needed zing to the game. Here's an example:
Hats off the the first puzzle where the answer is trademark dilution

Check out the Guiding Principles of the The Australian Institute of Backyard Studies. OK, so it's more like the Australian Institiute to Sell Marl Thomson's Books. So what. I like the principles.

Marcovaldo is the best book I've read in years. I finished it and immediately started reading it again. Even the author's note at the beginning is beautiful. Unfortunately the rest of Calvino's books overshadow poor Marcovaldo, so no good reviews of it exist online, at least in English anyway.
And since I can't write book reviews, Dear Reader, you must take my word for it and go read it for yourself.
