I'm hurting for a decent byline here, as you can tell.

Dick Amrey calls for a little spring cleaning of Palestine:

MATTHEWS: So you would transport--you would transport the Palestinians from Palestine to somewhere else and call it their state?

Rep. ARMEY: I would be perfectly content to have a homeland, just as--most of...

MATTHEWS: But not in Palestine?

ARMEY: Most of the people who now populate Israel were transported from all over the world to that land and they made it their home. The Palestinians can do the same, and we're per--perfectly content to work with the Palestinians in doing that...We are not willing to sacrifice Israel for the notion of a Palestinian homeland.

Gosh golly, Mr Armey, that sounds like an invite to me. Palestinines, pack your bags, and move on up to the 26th district of Texas. I'm sure the locals won't mind. Most of the people who populate Texas now were transported from all over the world as well. You can move there as well ! The original native Texas indians probably won't mind. They hardly exist at all anymore anyway. They were cleaned out long ago. Maybe someday they'll be transported back again. Who knows ? Texas is big big, big - there's room for everyone !

In all fairness, Dick's issued a statement saying he left an impression that doesn't reflect his views. What a pile of steaming cow paddies !! Read the transcript, and make up your own mind.

There's going to be some sort of sustainability fair on the Mall this weekend, from 10:00-4:00 Saturday and Sunday. I can't find any info about it on-line though.
The National Park Service Capital Region site is pretty pitiful.

THE REBEL GIRL
Words and Music by Joe Hill

There are women of many descriptions
In this queer world, as everyone knows,
Some are living in beautiful mansions,
And are wearing the finest of clothes
There are blue blooded queens and princesses
Who have charms made of diamonds and pearl;
But the only and thoroughbred lady
Is the Rebel Girl.

CHORUS
To the working class she's a precious pearl.
She brings courage, pride and joy
To the fighting Rebel Boy.
We've had girls before, but we need some more
In the Industrial Workers of the World.
For it's great to fight for freedom
With a Rebel Girl.

Yes, her hands may be hardened from labor,
And her dress may not be very fine;
But a heart in her bosom is beating
That is true to her class and her kind.
And the grafters in terror are trembling
When her spite and defiance she'll hurl;
For the only and thoroughbred lady
Is the Rebel Girl

Happy May Day Everyone.

Lo and behold, Bushkill Park, the dinky little amusement park from my home town apparently has some wicked bumpercars. So wicked, that the happy riders in the photo need to have their faces masked.

But this cannot compare to Peter's Bumper Cars - "These exciting cars are fully converted to rechargable electric power and do not require a track or facility of any sort on which to run." The very thought makes me giddy.

I imagine before long there will be bumpercar gangs, meeting in parking lots late at night for some wild off-track action. Bumpercar critical masses will become commonplace. There will be tricked out bumpercars. And once a year, all of bumperkin would gather somewhere in the Great Plains for a weekend-long bumper battle royale.

"Hope for the Hen-pecked: Paradoxical Games and Intertemporal Behavior in Asymmetric Marital Conflict"
with Rajeev Kohli and Raghuram Iyengar. In progress, target Journal of Consumer Research.

In this paper, we introduce the concept of paradoxical games to consumer behavior, and analyze asymmetric marital decision making situations. We construct a second-order model of marital decision making, which is biased towards one partner. We then analyze this as a repeated game, applying the Parrondo randomization procedure to demonstrate how the dominated partner may in fact combine losing strategies and end up better off overall. We then analyze the robustness of the model, and discuss how, rather than being a ?normative? mathematical artifact, it is actually a vivid representation of what happens in real life.

Don't miss the wedding album. I'm sure his marriage is very model.

I don't own a vibrator, but I guess I can be quirkyalone anyway. I got a score of 112 on the stupid quiz, so I'm very quirky. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to see 'Kissing Jessica Stein', by myself mind you....
