The pwan's weblog without a name

I'm hurting for a decent byline here, as you can tell.

The Arlington little kitten underground railroadhas been busted:

All but one of the cases that led to the April departures involved very young kittens.

The other case was that of a 3-month-old pit bull, which former shelter worker Jason Northrop said he took home to keep it from being killed. When the shelter found out, Northrop said, the dog was seized and euthanized the same day.

Hmmmm. According the AWLA, animals are put down only as a last resort. Somebody's fibbing.

First it was the miniature guide horses, now it's mini-cows - the world's most effficient, cutest and tastiest cows! And, yes, yes, there are indeed mini-pigs.

Some people keep their pigs on a lead when they are going into the forrest for a walk. Other minipigs prever the sofa in the living room. A one square meter kennel in an open-air ground should have at every minipigs disposal. A little meadow to graze, a quiet corner to relieve itselve and the first class piggy-hotel is complete.

There's also a mini-pig sanctuary in Culpeper, Virginia. Apparently mini-pigs are truly the forgotten animals in the world of animal rescue.

Lisp-poet Richard P. Gabriel is proposing a Master of Fine Arts in Software

This proposal is predicated on the belief that being a good software designer and developer requires talent, and that talent can be developed. We explicitly liken the practice of software to the practice of fine art.

Richard has written a lot of very good essays, at least one of which is pretty widely known already. Here's another one that should be.

A call for peace from the 34 Zionist Congress:

"We all want unity," said Chesler, "but not at the expense of freedom of expression. We have to be more tolerant of each other."

...

I don't want to enter into a conflict," said Chesler. "I want to find a way for us to cooperate without having to comprise our views."

I want to scream epithets this blog would ordinarily dissociate itself from.

Police have made some arrests in connection with the Danny Krug murder.
Here's more coverage from Stephen Burciaga's old school, as well as a story from my hometown paper.

More tingly hope from Wendell Berry:

XXI. What leads to peace is not violence but peaceableness, which is not passivity, but an alert, informed, practiced, and active state of being. We should recognize that while we have extravagantly subsidized the means of war, we have almost totally neglected the ways of peaceableness. We have, for example, several national military academies, but not one peace academy. We have ignored the teachings and the examples of Christ, Gandhi, Martin Luther King, and other peaceable leaders. And here we have an inescapable duty to notice also that war is profitable, whereas the means of peaceableness, being cheap or free, make no money.

A really basic RSS feed should be available now. I also tweaked the header to support RSS autodiscovery
