The pwan's weblog without a name

I'm hurting for a decent byline here, as you can tell.

I'm planning on incorporating blogchecker into this site. No doubt I'll rip out all the XML guts and end up just using the MD5 idea, but Mr Midboe still deserves some credit. I'll even point people to Fresh Blogs, which I assume is built around blogchecker.

Don't miss his open source / open life story.

a small victory has been blazing away the past couple days. Check out spinach and the circle jerk of hate.

I keep having this recurring dream where the world is being flooded as punishment for what we have done to it. As I furiously swim, trying to find a piece of land to rest on, an ark appears. Guiding the ark is Falwell and Pat Robertson. As they reach out their hands to bring me on board, I go underwater and try to drown myself.

And then of course, there is always the wonderful spork.

Egads. I broke the site last night big time. None of my cgi scripts were working all day. My spiffy cron job I was so happy about a few weeks back was spewing error messages at me every thirty minutes, and I had to look at that stupid error in the last post all day long....

Turns out I mucked up some directory permissions while trying to find out why the Last-modified headers aren't working right . I've been trying to write a script that automatically checks the Twigged list, and most of the sites are coming back with a Last-modified time of zero. How annoying !! Then I noticed my own site was also returning zero, so well then it got personal. I

If you know anything about the Last-modified secrets, please share ! I never did figure it out. I'm just glad I can post again...

Woe is me. Not only did someone snag up my first name for their blog, but he's using it to post really cheesy religious assembly language jokes.

Wrong Alexandria, but what a great question:

Who can concentrate on the food when the sea, in all its vastness, curls away in front of your eyes to leave you pensive and thoughtful with salty dreams of Istanbul, Athens, and Venice on the horizon?

A little over three months ago, I stopped watching television. I just went cold turkey. I've watched maybe two hours during various visits to my folks. And even then it was baseball, which hardly counts as anything. Instead of TV, I've been listening to a lot of public radio, watching lots of movies and DVDs, playing video games, and generally putzing around online.

One of the movies I went to see recently was Sum of All Fears. Based on the description, I figured it was a Black Sunday ripoff with updated villians, product placement, and Hollywood gadgets. All I knew about the movie was the little Yahoo blurb: terrorists/bomb/super bowl/blah blah blah. Seen it all before. Guilty pleasure movie.

Needless to say I was caught off-guard when halfway through the movie downtown Baltimore gets nuked. I thought it was a dream sequence at first. I looked around at the other people in the theater - nobody else seemed the least bit surprised. Then there was a scene when Ben Affleck is looking behind him at the mushroom cloud and it hit me - this image had probably been in all the commercials and trailers for the movie. Everyone around me in the theater, and for that matter most of the country have no doubt been watching commercials where Baltimore getting blown away. They've probably been seeing it about four times an hour every night for the past couple months. If I was the sort of person taken to panic attacks, I'm prety sure I would have had a pretty major one right about then.

So anyway now I'm wondering what other horrible images the people around me have been soaking up these past couple of months. If you find me staring at you a little too long, that's probably what I'm thinking of. I apologize in advance.
