Somebody has taken the Tao of Programming way too seriously... Fun read. Seems to fit in well with the whole Christopher Alexander cult.

Speaking of the good doctor, he's got a manefesto. Check out the Hippocratic Oath For Architects section.

So I had my first bad Insight experience. Not with the car, the car's doing just fine. Lifetime average mpg is just over 42 now. It was 22 on Sunday. The problem's with the dealership. I dumped the story down into the extended section, since I'm sure nobody gives a damn about my misadventures with clueless service people.

HP has backed down on it's threat to sue SnoSoft. That doesn't mean my tomato plants still aren't better software engineers than the talent at HP. After all, my plants have never ever allowed a buffer overflow bug into any "production quality" software.

Maybe it's because they've implemented some of these ideas from IBM. Maybe it's just because HP's needs to clean house and restock with engineers who won't allow such crap to go out the door.

A buffer overflow bug should be engineering's equivilent to an accounting shreadathon. There's should be a sheep dip o' shame for the folks involved, a thrashing of reputations. Afterwards, a hiring manager should start asking any applicants with HP development hard security-related questions.

(I should complain a bit more quietly. After all, Cisco's had it's own share of buffer overflow problems.)

Hurray. The Maibatsu Monstrosity, eh, Ford Excursion is being discontinued.
NPR said today they only sold 15,000 and needed 50,000 to break even. Too bad, too sad.

Ahh yes, now there's a UFO over Washington. Next week, dinosaurs on the mall, zombie drivers on the beltway. Wait maybe we already have that... Or maybe Old Rag will go volcanic. Nothing would surprise me anymore.

Wilbur sezs, " If you're not financially viable, you can't exist." Well, Wilbur's full of crap but that doesn't change the fact that the Uncommon Market is at risk of closing.

Egads. I've lived here for five years now and never knew there was a co-op in town. I'll be stopping by tonight to get some shares, if I can find the place. Only $10.00 a share. I didn't see if fractional shares were accepted. Apparently you need 20 shares to be in good standing.

Note the "coop" domain extension on the Uncommon Market link. Cool !

On the way to work today, I passed an SUV while the Insight was getting over 100 mpg. What a rush !

"Whether you're Bugs Bunny or a regular person, you can't help having fun when you dress up like Carmen Miranda!!" Especially if you want to do Jude's new car dance:

I got my Insight. Tra la la la la. I got my Insight. Tra la la la.
I got my Insight. Tra la la la la. My Insight. Tra la la .
Got My Insight. Tra la la

(Parents, put down your pills. I am not a cross-dressing cartoon rabbit. Relax.... Deep breathes..... ahhhhhhh.....)

The poor Saturn, it was having trouble getting past 50 mph anymore, and I was just waiting for it to up and die on me at any minute. I stopped trying to make it through the Easy Pass lanes on the toll road about a month ago. I was coming into work later than normal so when the car eventually did give it's death rattle, I wouldn't be stuck in rush hour traffic. It was time for the Requiem for Putt Putt

I started looking in earnest about a week ago, but then a friend visited from Michigan for a few days and then it was raining pretty bad for a couple more days, and there's a deadline at work, so I was search wasn't all that fast. To make matters worse, a lot of Honda dealerships in the Arlington area don't really stock the Insight, and even with the Civic Hybrid, they only have manual transmission, which I never learned the drive, so the pickings were pretty slim. I almost gave up and was thinking about buying another Saturn, but I was pretty disappointed how the car started falling apart after 100K. (Not that I really took great care of it)

But then Bill Page Honda came through. Not only did they have the car in stock, but they also had a nice "Internet Deal" so I ended up paying a couple thousand less than I'd budgeted for. Cool beans !! I know I still probably got taken for a ride, since I hate dealing with car salespeople, but I don't really care because I got my Insight. Tra la la la la.
