The pwan's weblog without a name

I'm hurting for a decent byline here, as you can tell.

Now I don't give two shakes of a sperms tail about stem cells, but I don't see why there was a big fuss about the decision. It was obvious the administration was going to follow the money, and the money in this case led to the biotech firms that are going to be sucking down this research money, and no doubt patenting anything they discover, left and right. Note that in W's speech he didn't list the biotech industry as a source he questioned. Let's see if that stops them from getting any of the funds...

I've asked those questions and others of scientists, scholars, bioethicists, religious leaders, doctors, researchers, members of Congress, my Cabinet and my friends. I have read heartfelt letters from many Americans. I have given this issue a great deal of thought, prayer and considerable reflection, and I have found widespread disagreement.

Here's a snippet from my logs. Dispite the total lack of news about Waagner lately, it looks like at least one DOJ'er is still looking for him. And they're using the high-tech power of Yahoo to track him down. Woo-hoo. I was starting to think his file was on one of those laptops they lost.

And now for something completely different:
Bobdog strawberry-flavored candy cigarrettes.

But on the serious side, do candy cigarettes encourage youngsters to smoke ?

I was checking out the old logs tonight, and I came across a post about Bolo'bolo from last July. So I poked around a little more and found a good hypertext version, complete with glossary of the words. Very sweet. Unfortunately for me, it's in French. Google has a surprisingly good English translation available.

In celebration of the blog's new byline, here's a long, rambling transhumanist rant against Brave New World.
It looks like there's a lot of good links buried within it.

Brandon Harris is back from the dead, and apparently he's been living it up some. Good for him.

Normally I'm not a big Adbusters fan. I find it pretty preachy, and after an article or two, it all starts to sound pretty much the same. I keep an issue or two around if I'm feeling too happy but besides that, I haven't been very impressed lately. But with all that out of the way, their Redesign pages are very much on target. Good job !

Phrase of the day: "gorked out on pharmies"

I was surprised to find so many references to "pharmies" on the web. Especially so many references to "getting phamies without scripts". I would have expected it to refer to the user, rather than the drugs themselves.

via Rasterweb:

imagine a world where you don't have to worry about sending out private documents to random people as email attachments... I live in such a world...
And even though I normal abhor animated gifs, the D.I.Y. button makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

check out the Liberal Arts Mafia commentary on loyalty oaths

I was recently shocked to learn that loyalty oaths did not go away with the end of the cold war, or with the end of McCarthyism. Loyalty oaths are still with us. In fact only recently were cosmetologists in the state of Arizona excluded from having to take a loyalty oath in order to receive a state license.

I always knew I was a Left Wing Wacko. Now I have the test scores to prove it.

Today's the 56th anniversary of the bombing of Hiroshima.

During the next few days, funeral processions passed our house from morning to night, bringing the deceased to a small valley nearby. There, in six places, the dead were burned. People brought their own wood and themselves did the cremation. Father Dalrer and Father Yeures found a dead man in a nearby house who had already become bloated and who omitted a frightful odor. They brought him to this valley and incinerated him themselves. Even late at night, the little valley was lit up by the funeral pyres.
