I'm hurting for a decent byline here, as you can tell.

Three thousand people die a horrible death in a matter of a few hours. The head honcho of the group responsible is found hiding out in some forsaken corner of the globe. Sound familiar ? No ? I didn't think so.

The first big trip with the Insight is finished. Two hundred and twenty miles from Arlington VA to Easton PA. It took over six hours. I'm exhausted. It was just one traffic jam after another. I saw two, count'em two sets of totally chared cars on route 15. On the positive side, I got 53.5 mpg for the trip, and the lifetime mpg is at 50.5 mpg now !

$147,000 is really a lot to pay to keep a senator from visiting a local church, or better yet, phoning his local spirtiual leader of choice from back in his home district.

From the offical Senate site:

Throughout the years, the United States Senate has honored the historic separation of Church and State, but not the separation of God and State.

During the past two hundred and seven years, all sessions of the Senate have been opened with prayer, strongly affirming the Senate's faith in God as Sovereign Lord of our Nation.

This is an offical .gov site. This is a democracy. What's with that sovereign lord theobabble. Hop in your time machine and go back to medieval Europe if you want your sovereign lords. Give them a biblical spanking when you find them. More:

Chaplain Ogilvie teaches several Bible study groups each week. He leads the Senators' Bible Study every Thursday at noon and the Senate Spouse Study which meets regularly on Tuesdays at 1:15 p.m. His Senate Staff Lunch and Bible Study Groups meet at 12:00 noon on Wednesdays and Fridays. The Senate Couples' Bible Study Group meets periodically throughout the year.

Sigh.

I'm driving to work yesterday in the rain. First big storm with the Insight. The storm picks up and I go to make the wipers on faster, so I flip the lever, and the wipers go off ! So there's a nice little WTF moment while I'm pretty much driving blind until I figure out the speed for the wipers is opposite what it was in the Saturn: Up now equals 'off', Down equals 'high speed'. It's the little things that almost get you killed. I'd have figured something like that would have been standardized.

Only fourteen cents on the dollar from the annual D.C. AIDSRide goes to charities. The rest goes to Dan Pallotta and friends who last week laid off 250 employees and shut down operations, after scarfing up over three million dollars (86% of 3.6m = 3.096m) from the local economy. Apparently somebody forgot to shut down their web server before leaving.

Hopefully this won't put poor Dan back into a demoralizing period of self-deprecation and self-hatred. That would be a pity.

Hotwheels Japan has an Insight. Luckily I'm an Ultraman fan.

I was out on my semi-daily run/walk/jog thang and saw that Brown's Honda is displaying an Insight right out on the corner of Lee Highway and North Pollard. That makes the third Insight, besides my own that I've actually seen in the wild. First one was a couple months ago on the toll road. The second one was about two weeks ago on 66. I mistook it for a Saub at first. It was being driven by a maniac who couldn't decide which lane to be in.

As it sped by me, I thought to myself, "What a dashing little car !!" . This is why I don't talk a whole lot - when I open my mouth phrases like 'dashing little car' come out. I actually had a dream last week where I used the phrase 'sunshiny burst of goodness' (think Takashi.) I am such a geekly geek.

I signed up for this semesters class. It's Data Communication and Networking. I've only been at Cisco for about two years. I guess it's about time I learn something about networks :-) Class starts on Wednesday. I am not sufficently motivated.
