I like the Waterloo Region Weblog, and it's not just because they deemed one of my subprojects a site worth seeing !

I had a crappy day at work, the sort of which is not only crappy in and of itself, but which brings harbingers of many crappy days to follow. The worst part being the exact number of days being unknown, and for that matter largely outside my control.
My advice to developers would be to not put together regression tests for your domain if lower level domains have no regression tests. Your tests end up capturing all the lower level failures as well, and you spend way too much time trying to figure out if the failure was your fault of some other subsystem.
But I shouldn't complain too much. The pain will eventually pass, and hopefully this will force some other people to put together some tests of their own for the future. Plus I always run better when I have bad days at work.
And anyway, something surprising just happened - at 11:00PM, there was suddenly a fireworks display somewhere in Washington, and I could actually see most of it. Usually when they are on the Mall, I can see about 5% of them because the FDIC building blocks them out, but tonight I could see about 65% of them. And they were good - better than the 4th of July show.

I wonder at what age Irish kids learn about the U.S. Civil Rights movement.
At the very least, some protestants should start paying closer attention to their own rhetoric:
Martin Luther King was once imprisoned for leading a civil rights parade against segregation in an area of the South where racist views predominated. He stood not for the rights of blacks, nor for the rights of whites, but for the civil liberties of all Americans, of every race, creed and colour.Like Martin Luther King we have taken the stand we have on behalf of all the people of Northern Ireland, Protestant and Catholic, who have had enough of terrorist-enforced segregation, of being ordered around by sectarian IRA and UVF gunmen and bombers. We want to reach out beyond the sectarian divide, to break down the walls of segregation that cause so much misunderstanding and hatred.

My not mourn the end of Mr Rogers with a trip to Mr Rogers Neighborhood.
It's a Hug and Song Selloutathon.
I'm amazed there isn't a detailed cross-referenced annotated timeline of the Make Believe stories anywhere on the web. Maybe now that the shows going to start showing reruns, there will be some hope. In particular, I'm hoping for information about a "Purple Pandas From Outer Space" storyline from the early '70s.

via randomwalks: A long, rambling article about the pay phones across the street from my apartment.
This here Ballston denizen thinks it was probably a pitifully slow news day.

So far the image that's going to stick with me when I think of this presidency is going to be fences.
First the enormous fences all over the city during the inaguration, and now the fences for the WB/IMF protests. One aspect about these fences is that is lost on the protourists is that they go up a couple weeks before the event and come down a couple weeks afterwards. Pretty soon they won't bother taking them down at all. Locals are left wandering around in a chainlink maze. Moo. Moooooo.
I guess we should just be happy they haven't started electrifying them yet. (check out the 6th paragraph). Moo.
Moooooooo.

From the creepy Feature Story News FAQ:
6. Will you only report stories you generate or can I ask you to cover a specific story for me?
We do both. FSN reporters are constantly on top of their beat, and will regularly propose news stories and features to your newsdesk. We offer general stories and features, and also stories particular to your news agenda ? the visit of your President or Foreign Minister for example, or a trade or human rights? issue of special interest to your audience. You can also commission the coverage you want: we?ll preview the issues, follow the event from start to finish, supplying as much or as little coverage as you want.
How comforting to know that the liberal bias I'm looking for in my news has a price tag.
BTW. Someone should probably tell the Feature Story News network that the 2000 election is over.
