So someone was syncing a branch I was working on and asked if I'd be around for a while, and I said no, that I was going to go see Red Dragon, and that I'd stop by and see if there were any merge conflicts after the movie. Can you guess where this is going ?
Well the movie was OK. Mr Norton fails to live up to my rather high expectations, but the rest of the cast is OK, and the movie actually sticks a little more closely to the book this time, which is a welcome change. The 1.5 seconds of Mr D. popping the teeth in just doesn't cut it in Manhunter. The Blind Girl is better this time around as well. On the other hand Red Dragon loses a lot of the procedural edge that was in Manhunter, and there's just way, way, way too much Anthony Hopkins. And I kept waiting for Mr Norton to say something like "This is Lector's enflamed colon".
But I digress. This is not a movie review This is about me being at work at 11:00 PM. So anyway the movie ends, I hop back to the office since the theatre is just a block away, and wouldn't you know it, there were a bunch of conflicts. Damn. But of course you knew it. Why else would I be blubbering on so. So now I'm fixing them, late on a Friday night. Boo hoo hoo for me. Sometimes it is a huge pain when more than half the people you work with live in California....

Locations of the local sniper attacks.
Cleaning guy just came by, said someone's been shot in Reston. I can't find anything online about it. Probably just a rumor.
This is getting to be a bit much. Plane Crashes, check. Anthtax, check. West Nile Virus, check. Walking Fish, check. Dart Gun Attacks, check. Randon Sniper Attacks, check. WTF. Am I leaving anything out ? Oh yeh, the malaria. How could I forget the malaria.
Time to move back up North, I think.

There was a cross-country walk for peace that ended in DC last month.
Apparently really long walks are all the rage the past few years, no doubt following the trend set by the Peace Pilgram. The Dharmawalk and the Earthwalker are two of the more interesting ones, though the Peace Druid, with his pet dinosaur is right up there.
And yes there are even Peace Runners and a Peace Biker.

Chemical industry refuses to clean up its act. Greenwashing EPA lackeys say "OK, Whatever."
Bhopal. Bhopal. Bhopal.
It could happen here tomorrow, and the only consequence would be a corporate bailout.

I said it last post, and I'm saying it again: Holy crap. Laquetta Shepard shows the country how to deal with terrorism. Hats off to her.
Word is the folks who's prayers are being answered in that there picture will be in Lincoln on October 26th, and Casey County, Kentucky on November 9th. Don't ask me how I know. Yuckles. I have to go take a long shower now....
Anyway, October 26th is far enough away for some Kentuckian-Americans to throw together a nice little Phelps-style pledgathon, no ? The Central Kentucy chapter of Kentuckians for the Commonwealth looks like a natural pledgee.

Holy crap. JC Penny, what were you thinking when you put together the Forward Command Post ? Does this mean you're also going to market the Realwar Scale Model Figures ? Looks like they'ld fit right in.
Oh yeh, let's not forget about the Ride-on Tank. What, no Ride-On Bulldozer ? How's the little tyke supposed to play Israelis and Palestinians ?

Here's a standard puff piece on the Honda Civic Hybrid. I'm adding a link for the last paragraph. Too sappy to repeat here, but I like the meme.
So exactly how much has that flag bumpersticker improved your gas mileage ?

Pwanville's running off green juice now.
If you live in Northern Virginia, you too can switch your electricity over to one of Pepco's renewable energy plans now. More info on switching providers is at Virginia Energy Choice. Please, people, get off your oily coal-puffing butts ! Based on my order number, way less than five thousand households have switched so far.
Next step is to move pwan.org to something like SolarHost, once it's less than $42.50/month. That's almost double what I'm paying now. SolarHost should be paying more attention to the hobbyist market, and provide something along the lines of 10MB disk space, 1 email address, Linux-based, no crappy Microsoft extensions. I'd pay $24.99/month for that.

I saw Dave Eckert's documentary Four Mile Run, Reviving an Urban Stream tonight. It was the compressed hour-long version, so it seemed a bit rushed at places, especially the beginning, but overall an excellent example of locally produced media.
