Sick of Bert ? Try out "Show me the dollars so I can be ready".
Sick of anthrax ? Why not check up on that guy who ordered the bubonic plague through the mail a couple years ago.
Oops, turns out he was paroled and then arrested again for antrax possession.
Eventually those charges were dropped..
That was all back in 1998. I couldn't find anything recent on this guy.
Hopefully someone has checked up on him by now.
I'm guessing these anthrax cases are going to be the work of domestic, eh, excuse me homeland terrorists playing catch-up.

There's going to be a B-52 flyover in my neighborhood this afternoon. I hope people don't freak out and think it's a plane coming down.
Update: Well, the plane came and went without much ado. It was supposed to come around 3:00 so around 2:50 I went out to look for it. There were no planes in the sky at all, which was sort of weird. It looked like a soccer game over in the park had stopped as well to wait for it. Finally around 3:05 a plane came across, but it was pretty far away, over by National, which looked like a passanger plane, but that's all there was. The game started again, I went back inside to finish the bills.
Then around 3:30 it really came over. There was an incrediable loud sound of a plane, which I'm sure must of rattled anyone who didn't see the paper today. I ran out and saw it go directly overhead. It really wasn't that low, but it was really big, and loud, and gone after a couple seconds. My main impression was that it looked old-fashioned, sort of like a car from the 60's. A little research shows the last plane, eh excuse me, "stratofortress", was built in 1962, and each cost $74 million. No info on how much it costs to fly one over a funeral though.

Someone finally got around to writing more than a blurb about Waagner's carjacking from last month.
Arriving in Tunica, Waagner had checked into the Sheraton but got spooked when he heard sirens. He'd left $3,000 in cash, three pistols, U.S. Marshal's Service badges and a computer behind.

So both my parents ended up in the ER last night. Turns out my dad was passing a kidney stone, and it upset my mom so much she thought she was having a heart attack. But do they admit themselves in parallel, no that would be too easy. My mom doesn't check herself in until my dad is checked out. No terribile results, but all in all they spend about seven hours in the ER.
So what do they do the next day - they have a dinner of pot roast and cannoli ! Cannoli !! I don't belive it.
Bad parents, bad, bad !!! Think fruits and veggies, and lots of water !!! Ugh !!

My transfer from NSI, eh Verisign to Gandi was rejected today !!
Turns out my contact information was out of date.
Somehow, no doubt through the magic of monopoly power, my contact e-mail had been changed to no.valid.email@WORLDNIC.NET.
Also, surprisingly my technical contact was still the woefully inadaquet folks at Webhosting.com, who long ago nearly burned out my eyes by putting my site on a NT box when I was paying for a linux account.
So I think I got the e-mail addresses squared away, and I asked the gandi-ites rerunning the transfer.
My fingers are crossed. Sixteen days until the lights go out, in case anyone was wondering....

Forget about those MREs, check out the cool wind-up radio info-bombs.
They only get one station as delivered, but I'm sure there are a few techie refugees who will be able to fix that after a couple days.
Hopefully no one will be blown to bits by a landmine retrieving them.

The Universalist Unitarian Church of Arlington is having a series on "Exploring the Islamic Faith" on Mondays during October.
I went to this evening's lecture, and it was pretty strange to say the least. The main speaker, Dr Anwar Hajjaj gave a half hour long catechism-style question and answer sermon which seemed to alienate the audience more and more as time went on. It was pretty much downhill from the second sentence when he said that Allah had no wife.
There was a big section about relationship between the rich who need to give 2.5% of the money to the poor, who in turn should be careful not to be envious of the rich. Not exactly what the social justice folks wanted to hear, but then again, not so different from that Christian "meek'll inherit the world" party line.
There was also a big helping of "Muslim != Terrorist" which I don't think anyone present needed to be told, except for one oaf who asked "Do you, personally, believe the terrorists went to heaven or hell ?" during the question and answer session.
Speaking of the Q&A, that didn't go to well either, especially the questions that lead to answers about Islam not accepting evolution or abortion rights. All in all, I left the lecture with pretty much the same idea of Islam that I entered with - that they're pretty much Southern Baptists with a different holy book.
There was a second speaker who switched from Islam from Christianity. He spent most of his time talking about how great it was to pray five times a day, and how we should stop by the mosque and learn more about the Koran. He seemed sincere, but I doubt he picked up any converts.
I don't know if I'll bother going to the other lectures. Hopefully they will be more culturally-based. I guess I'll camp out in the back of the church for the next one, and if it looks like another theology lesson, I'll duck out. My parents don't need to worry about me coverting to Islam anytime soon !

I've posted an idea for a World Trade Center Memorial on the site.
As expected it's a tech-heavy pipe dream.
