I found out how to get my TV to skip over a given station. So naturally, I programmed it to skip over the home shopping networks, the sports stations, the scrambled pay stations, and the 24-hour news stations. I've also written "Vivez Sans Temps Mort" on some stickers, and slapped them on the TV and remote.
The time just seemed ripe for a little memetic self-medication.

I've been at Cisco almost a year on next Tuesday. All that time I've sat pretty close to the lunch room, which contains a foosball table. I sit close enough to it that I can hear almost every game. Dispite that, I have never won a game. I am happy if I get more than 5 points. Most of my points are made by my opponent hitting the ball into my goal. I really suck at the game. Until today. I won twice. I am in Foosball Heaven.

You can't help but push all my buttons when your stone and mortar architecture paper includes pseudocode in the appendix.
The authors must have had a lot of fun putting this together.
I'm going to have a blast reading it.

The song-of-the-day is Lou Reed's Halloween Parade which unfortunately reads as very well in a post-WTC world. So what if it's a week late.

Hungry Minds is going after the Mid-Atlantic Infoshop for their Black Block For Dummies webpage.
I'm sure nothing but good will come from this. I know my world wouldn't be the same if the "for dummies" trademark was diluted.

Locals readers should know by now that there's a general election in Virginia on Tuesday. The League of Women Voters has a Guide for the local elections.
Jim Lowenstern appears to be running for the Virginia House as a Green in the 46th district. Alas, I'm in the 47th district, so I'll be sticking to the Democrats.
Showing up at the polling place and waiting to vote takes more energy than taping a newspaper-insert flag to a window, so I expect lines to be quite short.
As usual.
