The pwan's weblog without a name

I'm hurting for a decent byline here, as you can tell.

Area Traffic Bursts Limit On Pollution is such a lame, lame title. Come the obvious title goes something like "Locals Gags on Area Traffic", or maybe, just maybe "SUV's clog area roads .. and area lungs. Sigh.

Kirby said other large urban areas also are finding their new calculations higher than expected. When the air-quality standards were set, Kirby said, no one anticipated the popularity of SUVs or the growth in the number of trucks.

...

Fixing a 50-ton problem will take more than clean-air programs, officials said, largely because truck deliveries are an integral part of the economy. They said they will have to reconsider the region's entire clean-air plan, including the need for tighter controls on other emissions sources, such as power plants, construction equipment and lawn mowers.

Looks like you've dropped something along the way there.. Since we're considering lawn mowers, why not also crack on those annoying noisy leaf blowers. Only a fiend would stand up for a leaf blower !

At least those diesel powered boots never seemed to catch on.

Based on the searches coming into this site, one would I had much more epicurious content. Half the searches are coming in looking for a certain cookbook, the other half are looking for a a certain Ms Hottie Chef.

So people are violent and horny - that's not too interesting or sucky. What's so sucky is that the search engines are directing the trolls to pages which have nothing to do with their trollage. The bombardier beetles are being sent this VI-related post instead of here.

The horny toads are being sent to a kangaroo/OO post instead of to the here. Horny toads might also want to check out this show....

At least I'm not getting many people looking for that damn Maryland fish anymore.

Yesterday was my two year anniversary at Cisco. Weehoo. Stock options priced at four times todays price are now 40% vested ! Three more years and I'll have 100% of nothing.

Check out the strange poster outside the Cherrydale Volunteer Fire Department.

team up for fire safety

A welcome change from the "Change your smoke alarm battery" or "Thank you for your support" signs all the other fire departments have posted.

It's visionary even, if I may be so bold. Apocalyptic yes, I'll grant you that, but what good visionary piece doesn't have it's share of blatant religious overtones ?

Maybe I'm a prude, but that skirt seems a tad bit short for pulling the Earth out of the fiery depths of Hell.

The Caribou Commons walk ends in Washington this weekend. I'm a sucker for PR stunts involving really long walks.

I finally got around to reregistering to become an Uncommon Market member. Back in July I stopped by when they were at risk of being evicted, but they apparently lost those shares. No big deal. It's not like I'm depending on the discounts at all. They didn't seem all that organized today either - my membership number may be #4954, or it may not be. There's a problem with the database and some book wasn't where it was supposed to be. I should bring in my receipt next time in case there's a problem. Seventeen and a half more shares and I'll be in good standings, granted there are no more problems, which I assume there will be.

Somehow I don't mind the bumblings of the co-op people 1/1000 as much as say the bumblings of Honda, which last week sent me a notice that it was time to have my first oil changed three weeks after I brought it in for service ! And this was the local Honda dealership, not Papa Honda off in Japan with his carrier pigeon IP connection. Egads. Honda should probably hire some of the co-op's bookkeepers - it would be an improvement !

Still, Honda should be happy since I did some marketing for them in the parking lot before I went in to the co-op ! I should keep some Honda literature in the little cubby hole in the back and give it out to people with questions. BTW. probably around the end of the week I will burn my 100th gallon of gas in the car.
