(Made it back in Easton, but the lifetime MPG is still at 51.9 - I didn't get over 52 mpg for the trip until I got past Harrisburg. Ughh. Still 53.5 average for the trip wasn't all that bad.)

In today's Easton Express, there was a positive article on the front page of the business section about Buy Nothing Day ! Through it I learned of the Christmas Resistance Movement, and the Buy Nothing Christmas. The tract Jesus Shops For Sandals is great. Thanks Easton Express !

People have been leaving really weird "duck in a noose" type comments on some of the older posts, so I've turned off the comment feature. Actually I replaced the really weird comment which had to do with wearing orange when hunting small animals with the ice cream cone comment. Send me e-mail if you want to comment on anything, and I'll update the post appropriately if you're interesting enough.

In the meantime, you can laugh your pre-holiday day away with these Gumby cartoon summaries. The page is huge, and some of the summaries are just too bizarre to refer to real cartoons, but it's really funny, and I hardly find anything funny anymore, jaded post-youth that I am.

Don't miss the Gumby Thanksgiving, Wishful Thinking, and The Big Eye. It looks like the other summary pages are just as good, but I already wasted most of the morning on this.

Off to Easton now ! I should break 52 lifetime MPG sometime on the trip ! I'm at 51.9 now.

Who rules ?. You know who rules.

He (U.S. District Judge Henry Kennedy) said the anti-abortion group qualified for the exemption (from campaign advertising restrictions) because the group had received at least $50 in corporate contributions.

Here are some tips and some more tips for getting back to that whole "by the people, for the people" bit.

Happy upcoming Saint Ada's Day.
Tomorrow's the 150th anniversary of her death, but I'm traveling tomorrow, so the party's today.

I'm celebrating with a link to the Judith Halberstam paper "Automating Gender: Postmodern Feminism in the Age of the Intelligent Machine". IMHO, the paper falls short of it's title. There's a good paragraph or two right after she finishes the Turing Test primer, but before she falls into the obvious Turing Trap. After that it spirals into postmodern shop talk.

Dancing is to the tune of Girls just wanna defun.

My friend Don went out and bought a Prius over the weekend. There are two hybrids in the parking lot now ! Hip Hip Hurray !

There should probably also be a "PMD" malady - "post humvee depression". You know those cartoons where the fellow has his own little raincloud that follows him around. Each time I see a humvee it's like I have my own personal ozone hole that follows me around.

The government is forcing parents to opt-outmarketing program geared at high school students:

The student directories will be used to contact students by phone and mail, William Carr said. The recruitment effort should not be compared to telemarketing in any way, he said, and it would be illegal to use the data for any purpose other than recruiting.

Unsolicated telephonephone contact is the very definition of telemarketing, Mr Carr. No comparison is needed.

Here a sample opt-out form that Fairfax county is using. It's worth filling out for your own little troopers, even if you're outside the area.

Also seeing that the FBI's suspected terrorist list was leaked to private companies, what's the chance your kid's name isn't also going to be leaked to, umm I mean shared with private contractors ?

I hear mercenaries are looking to rebrand themselves. Who knows, maybe little Suzie's data will be for sale in the back pages of Soldier of Fortune some day soon.

(Interesting little tidbit on that SOF link - apparently only 1% of SOF readers own a knife.)
