I just caught a Thomas Frank lecture on CSPAN. Wow, can that guy talk, you know. I kept waiting for his head to turn blue and explode. And i loved the way he was just dropping his notes on the floor when he was done with them. In case you don't know, Tom Frank is the founding editor of The Baffler, which is always good reading, especially if you imagine it being read out loud by someone who hasn't taken a breathe for the entire page.

Anarchists Claim Responsibility for Seattle Earthquake Ah yes, of course. But what about the ones in El Salvador and India ???

Debster left for his Twin Oaks visit today. Actually I'm not as upset about it as I thought I would be. I came into work really, really late so I could spend the morning with her, which was nice, and I'm going down there to visit in two weeks, so it shouldn't be too bad. Hopefully she'll be keeping up her blog, and she'll have access to a phone. Otherwise it'll probably get pretty tough...

If it wasn't for this morning's Democracy Now! I wouldn't have known it was International Women's Day at all. I can't find any mention of it in the local papers, and all the IWD sites are either two years out of date, or based in places like Scotland and Australia, not that there's anything wrong with these places, but they are verrrry faaar awaaaay.

(BTW, don't be discouraged by the lame out of date DN web page - go to the archive for the goodies, especially the 2-28-02001 entry which was cut short on WPFW last week)

Debby leaves for a three week visit to Twin Oaks tomorrow. I've set up a blog for her on this site called The Twin Oaks Experience.

This visit has had me pretty upset for a while now, but earlier in the week someone I worked with at CACI died in childbirth. Sort of put things in perspective a little.
