``Widening roads to deal with the [traffic] problem is like letting out your belt to deal with obesity.''

The "footprint" mentioned in the letter is actually a rather nice well-used local bike trail. Here's a thought - why not get some of those inner beltway petrolholics out of their cars and onto the bike path.
