Iranian Apathy May Hinder U.S. Bid to Foment Unrest : "The people are going to their homes, not coming out into the streets. The atmosphere in Tehran and Iran is being de-politicized, step by step and day by day."

Villagers accused of Apathy: 'Come on Reydon, where are you? Wake up'

Apathy signs removed from city hall lawn: ""Whoever produced the signs violated our copyright," said Lawler of the use of the letter A. "No one has permission to reproduce that."

Shoppers conquer apathy and doubt in Covent Garden: Christian Aid's Director Daleep Mukarji was among those who fought the life size characters with huge batons whilst balancing on a wobbling podium

The Church Calender of the Apathetic Agnostic: "I don't know, and I don't care."

I've been breathing in a lot of data smog recently. What's Henry David have to say about it ?

And I am sure that I never read any memorable news in a newspaper. If we read of one man robbed, or murdered, or killed by accident, or one house burned, or one vessel wrecked, or one steamboat blown up, or one (mad?) cow run over on the Western Railroad, or one mad (cow?) dog killed, or one lot of grasshoppers in the winter- we never need read of another. One is enough. If you are acquainted with the principle, what do you care for a myriad instances and applications? To a philosopher all news, as it is called, is gossip, and they who edit and read it are old women over their tea.

In celebration of Emerson's 200th birthday, here's a quote from War:

"We surround ourselves always, according to our freedom and ability, with true images of ourselves in things, whether it be ships or books, or cannons or churches. The standing army, the arsenal, the camp, and the gibbet do not appertain to man. They only serve as an index to show where man is now; what a bad, ungoverned temper he has; what an ugly neighbor he is; how his affections halt; how low his hope lies. He who loves the bristle of bayonets, only sees in their glitter what beforehand he feels in his heart. It is avarice and hatred; it is that quivering lip, that cold, hating eye, which builded magazines and powder-houses."
