I'm hurting for a decent byline here, as you can tell.

My hometown now has Animals on Parade. Mules to be exact. Canal mules.

Saint Christopher's Pattern Language is online. Hurray for hypertext.

In other news I'm in Easton for a couple days helping my mom recover from some parathyroid surgery.

Ed Norton is getting an award from the Environmental Media Association for "his innovative work to promote the use of solar energy".

Whatever... Jimmy Davis and Charles Mitchell should have won for "You are my sunshine". It's the state song Louisiana, after all. How can you go wrong with that ?

From the introductory essay to Garden of Eden on Wheels at the Musuem of Jurassic Technology:

Against this flood of darkness, against this inevitable annihilation, certain individuals are called upon to preserve what they can. And those of us who hear and heed this call to hold back for a time some small part of existence from the inevitability of entropic disintegration have come to be known as collectors.

This description of the musuem makes it sound almost good enough to make me consider maybe one day wanting to visit Los Angeles.

A Canadian courier company is switching to hybrids. Meanwhile Ford delays selling the Escapade to fleets. I guess American courier companies wanting their hybrid love may need to start looking North.

Now I've got nothing against Canada. I've never met a Canadian I didn't like. I suspect many people I do like, are in fact closet Canadians. But when I think "engineering", I don't think Canada. All I do really think of is the RCMP. A vast northern police state stuffed with Mounties keeping the peace order and good government, with maybe a few lumberjacks thrown in for good measure - that's Canada to me.

So if you do find yourself getting ass-kicked by a Canadian engineering firm, Henry dear, you may have yourself a bit of an image problem among the locals.

The potting soil is back in it's pot now, and the rugs almost dry. I met someone from the simplicity reading group who had a tree fall on her garage, and who didn't have power until yesterday. Also about half the folks at the 11:15 UUCA service were either without power or water according to a show of hands. There were a couple trees down on the bike path, but nothing very serious. I didn't see an structural damage to any of the neighborhood houses.
