Sometimes the packaging of a product is doing little more than providing post-purchase advertising.
There is a difference between the product and it's packaging. A lot of the time, once the external packaging is removed it will be impossibile to tell the difference between competing products (think soft drinks). This is where repackaging products comes in. But sometimes, the repackaging step is unneccessary, and it's enough to just remove the packaging altogether.
Some products I have found this useful for are : soap, toilet paper, batteries
If the packaging can't be removed, try repackagingthe product with in a less offensive way. If the product itself has logos on it, then look into the removing logos family of patterns.
No special tools Boxcutters are useful for breaking down boxes.
No special skills needed
There's a good payback here. I've found a lot of packaging totally unneccessary, outside it's goal of providing post-purchase advertising.
